2025 Orange Beach - Day 1 - Wed, 9.24.2025

Smyrna, TN to Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 1
    • In Smyrna 70° with a high of only 79. There is 60% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had 0.84” of rain in past 24 hours.
      • We headed to beach today. We picked up David and Gwen at 6:45. Traffic was heavy on 840. Waze told us to get off at Almaville Road to bypass the heavy traffic. We took at a right on 96, left on Rehoboth, right on Patterson to 31/41 and finally back onto 840 (this detail was for you, Caleb). We stopped in Athens for breakfast at Bojangles for quick bite. Rain started and it rained off and on until we got to Montgomery.
      • Traffic was backed up I-65 because they seemed to by moving oversized Mobile homes down the interstate. Once, the emergency vehicle pulled to the left to block both lanes right in front of me. I dropped from 70 to 40 mph and almost rearended him.
      • We stopped for a break and got back on interstate before the mobile home caught up with us. Later there was a group of carnival vehicles pulled off onto right shoulder as one of their food trailers had become disconnected and ended up in the median.
      • We exited I-65 at Exit 37 and filled up with gas at the Marathon. This was only our 3rd stop since leaving home. We got onto I-10 for a few miles and exited onto Baldwin Beach Expressway at the Bucees exit. Traffic was very heavy as we neared Guld Shores.
      • We were at DeSoto's for dinner around 3:30. After dinner we checked in to condo, unloaded the vehicles and waited on groceries to be delivered. Condo said they had an ice machine, but we never found it. We did buy ice from a vending machine on property ($7 for 14 lb).
      • Most went to be early as day of traveling is tiring.

2025 Orange Beach - Day 2 - Thu, 9.25.2025

Orange Beach, AL

  • Day 2
    • 75° with a high of 83. There is 80% chance of rain forecasted for today. We had only 0.03” of rain in past 24. hours.
    • We got up early.  Sandra and Patsy took sunrise pics.  Paul (on the beach) and Lynn (on the street) to walks and then came to make breakfast. David cooked the bacon, Lynn made pancakes, and Paul set the table and cleaned up. People stared out the windows watching it rain so we ate inside. All one could do was stare out the windows at the rain.
    • Sandra, Gwen and Patsy worked on puzzle after breakfast while Lynn updated the blog from Wednesday.
    • We watched Paul’s videos on YouTube to include "Life On a Page".
    • We got dressed and got ready to leave for dinner. We wanted to get the Disabled placard out of truck, but Patsy's key fob was dead. We manually used the key to unlock the truck, but the alarm went off. Lynn ran into Condo to get the other key to turn off alarm. We later got a new battery for Patsy's fob.
    • We had dinner at the Original Oyster House. We recognized one of the waiters who was from Frankin, TN. He first waited on us about 15 years ago. He has worked there for 33 years.
    • We came home and had some key lime pie. Patsy placed a delivery order at Walmart, but the credit card got messed up so Lynn and Patsy drove to Walmart to get supplies for grilling burgers on Friday.
    • We watched some TV before going to bed.

2025 Orange Beach - Day 3 - Fri, 9.26.2025

      • Paul and I walked on the beach (not together though). Lynn did more bird pictures than walking.
      • The ladies cooked breakfast of sausage, biscuits, eggs and gravy. We ate out on the deck. It's a beautiful day.
      • We went down and sat by the pool for a while. Some walked in the beach. We went up around noon for snacks and spent a couple of hours on the deck.
      • We played some Farkle. Patsy won. The men went down to the condo’s grill and did an excellent job cooking  burgers and onions. We came back up and ate them on the balcony.
      • The internet was out for about 4 hours so we played Flip 7 and Garbage.  UVA beat Florida State 46-38 in 2OT. The internet came back up so we watched the highlights from the game.
