Coming back from visiting the family in Virginia, we took 3 days to drive back.  Our first stop was in Bedford, Virginia to visit the D-Day Memorial.

We left Bedford, Va and traveled down to Saltville, VA to visit the Museum of the Middle Appalachia.  Arriving a little around 4:00 pm, the museum was closed.  Here are some pics of Saltville from the nearby mountain drive.

After staying overnight at the Marriott in Kingsport, TN, we headed over to Jonesborough, the oldest city in Tennessee.  We had breakfast at the Old Town Pancake House and then headed "downtown".  I guess they are renovating so construction trucks filled the streets with dust and dirt.

We left and drove over to Davy Crockett State Park to see ol' Dave's boyhood cabin (it is a replica guys, not the real thing). 

We then drove down to see Andrew Johnson's home, tailor business and grave down in Greenville, TN.  

We left Greeneville  and drove to Clinton, TN and visited the Museum of the Appalachia.  The museum is associated with the Smithsonian and have done an excellent job recreating life in the early Appalachia.  There are some 26 structures from log houses to barns to hen houses to corn cribs.  It is definitely worth a visit.

We drove to Knoxville and got a room at the Spring Hill Suites.  We met up that evening with Paul Wells and had some refreshments at the Texas Roadhouse.  The next morning (Jul 28) we drove over to Oak Ridge and visited the Department of Energy's American Museum of Science and Energy.  One could spend an entire day at the museum.  They have a lot of memorabilia from the Cuban Missle Crisis.  Around 12:30 we took a 3 hour bus tour of "Manhattan Project" sites like K-25 and Y-12.  Uranium was enriched at these locations during WWII and used in the atomic bombs that ended the Pacific War with Japan.
